Love – A Poem

I’ve been pondering all week what to write for my Thankful Thursday poem and couldn’t think of anything. Then tonight I followed a link from a comment on my Wednesday poem and came to a post titled “Let’s Talk Love.” The blogger pointed out that God is love (which is actually one of my favorite Bible verses – 1 John 4:8). It reminded me how thankful I am for love. Without it this life wouldn’t be worth living. So I decided to write my Thankful Thursday poem about love.

Love

Your love is patient
each time I fail
For all my sins
You bore the nails

Your love remembers not
the sins of today
but chooses to forgive
and provide a way

Your love is the truth
that provides the light
to guide my life
help me do what is right

Your love protects me
from the evil one
As You hung on the cross
You declared all was done

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NIV).

I am a Jesus Freak, and I don't care who knows it. I am a wife, mother, sister, aunt, daughter, and friend. My blood family is only part of the larger family of Christ that I belong to. I love to write, especially about my dear Savior.

  1. You show His love wonderfully in this poem. Love it! Thinking of you, with love and prayers, for His love to cover you and hold you close tonight.

    • Deb, Thank you. I really wanted to write more, but I just didn’t have the time. At some point I might go back and expand this poem to have a stanza for each of the characteristics of love listed in 1 Corinthians 13, but this will have to do for now. Thank you for your prayers. I know that it is the prayers of others that have been getting me through this past week or two. 🙂 Peace, Linda
