Fun with Haiku and Senryu
I recently came across a delightful website called Poetry Pea run by a poet named Patricia. They publish a print journal of submitted haiku and senryu, and also have a monthly podcast in which Patricia (who has a delightful voice, I might add) reads some of the submitted poems that have been accepted for publication in the journal.
Each month has a theme for the poems to be submitted. For July, the theme was voyages. Poets can submit up to 10 poems. I learned of the opportunity to submit only a day or two before the July deadline, so I quickly got to work writing and came up with 10 simple poems to submit.
Imagine my delight when Patricia wrote back and said 2 of my poems had been accepted for the journal, and that 1 of them would be read on the podcast.
You can listen to the podcast here: https://poetrypea.com/series-3-episode-14-voyages/
Next month’s theme is joy and the deadline is August 1. I already have 12 potential haiku to submit, but haven’t decided for sure which 10 will make the cut.
And just for extra fun, here’s a little haiku I wrote the other day. It’s not the one on the Poetry Pea podcast.

That’s very cool! Congratulations, especially since it was your first time submitting for it.
