Singing the Blues

From Lamentations
to Stevie Ray Vaughn
the blues remind us
we're not alone
Bitterly we weep
while the sky is crying
Affliction and sadness
forever universal
and somehow
that simple reminder
set to Biblical verse
or a guitar riff that talks
makes life bearable
It’s Quadrille Monday once again at dVerse Poets Pub where is calling for our 44-word poems incorporating the word blue. I immediately thought of one of my favorite genres of music and poetry. Head on over to the pub for a virtual drink of your choice and see what other blue topics poets are writing about.
As a bonus, dVerse is celebrating its eighth anniversary!

You’re so right that we’re connected by the blues–that we’re all touched by them and so recognize that others are, too.

Good poem, Linda. The limitations of the form aren’t at all apparent here.
Thanks. I do love the challenge of writing a whole poem with only 44 words.
Often the poems sound truncated, but yours sounded as though you actually needed 44 words, no more, no less.
I like the way you explored the ambiguity of ‘the blues’, Linda, and love the thought of ‘a guitar riff that talks’. Welcome back to the pub! 😊
Thanks. Said guitar ruff is played by Stevie Ready Vaughn.
Surely we never are so unique. Took me a long tine to realize this
Much💙love
The blues definitely touch our souls. (K)
a guitar riff that talks….now THAT’S the Blues.
Well done LK!
‘Tis indeed. Thanks.
Great job Linda! Takes me to the song that starts, “Well, I never felt more like singin the blues….”
Affliction and sadness seem to be universal… very well said!
I love that song! I hear it in Hank Williams’ voice.
It has been a long time since I heard that one!
“the blues remind us we’re not alone” …. yep, they do!
🙂
Nice take on the blues, Linda.
