God’s Holy Word and Good Advice – My Tuesday Three

The Word of God is a wonderful resource for encouragement, advice, and answers to life’s big questions. As I kept my eye out for blog posts to include in My Tuesday Three this week, I came across three that highlight the wonder of the Holy Scriptures.

The first post I want to showcase is Hearing and Learning by Deb Feller over at Deb’s Blog. I’ve been reading Deb’s Blog for quite a while and am never disappointed. In addition to a Bible verse, Deb always posts a “simple poem.” But don’t let her description of her poetry as simple fool you. She packs a lot of Biblical wisdom and encouragement in just a few words. This particular poem was inspired by Deuteronomy 31:12. My favorite stanza is:

for me to focus on
His word while I’m here

The outcome of our focus on His Word is that we will develop a healthy awe and reverence for God. We also come to better understand our relationship with Him and what He desires for our relationship with others.

The second post that I want to showcase is titled Is that good advice? by Bee over at Beegraziani. This is a blog I’ve only recently started reading, but she does have some good advice, and an encouraging story of struggles and faith. In this post, Bee talks about how we humans can sometimes tend to seek advice from all the wrong places, spending time venting to friends we hope will tell us what we want to hear. But that is not what God calls us to do and the advice we get in these circumstances is not always good advice. Bee writes:

My discovery led me to the conclusion that I needed to be discerning in who I listened to.  From God’s perspective, there is nothing wrong with seeking advice, but what is important is that we seek advice from someone whose frame of reference begins with the Word of God.

Good advice starts with the Holy Scriptures. If the advice someone gives you isn’t consistent with God’s Word, then it isn’t good or helpful advice. I’ve received that kind of advice before, such as when I’ve had people tell me it’s okay to hold on to anger or respond in anger to someone else, because the other person supposedly deserved it. But that is worldly advice. Godly advice starts with forgiveness and understanding based on His Word.

The third post that I want to showcase is a short poem called His Word by blueprintbaby that was contributed over at Idylls for the King. The conclusion of this poem is that through His Word we see Jesus, and there is no one more beautiful to see. I’m not going to quote any of the poem here because it is only 5 lines long. The Word of God is wonderful to read, and it is by reading and focusing on His Word that we are blessed. When we know His Word, we can discern whether the advice we have been given is Godly advice or advice that will lead us astray. It is through His Word that we see the divine love of Christ. Have you picked up His Word today? 

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable. Hebrews 4:12-13 (NLT).
