Beyond Imagination

Can you imagine
the Son of God
washing your feet of
the dust you trod?

Can you imagine
Him breaking the bread
a sign of His body
to be broken instead?

Can you imagine
the cup that He poured
filled to the brim with
the blood of our Lord?

Can you imagine
to be God’s betrayer?
All for some silver
what a burden to bear

Can you imagine
the words He spoke
foretelling suffering
and the chains He broke?

Can you imagine
falling asleep
while Jesus prayed
His anguish so deep?

Can you imagine
running away
when they arrest Him?
It had come—His day

Can you imagine?
What would you do?
Stand and fight
or flee the scene, too?

Can you imagine?
I think I would run
dreading the worst
with the rising sun

Can you imagine
His prediction came true?
He hung on the cross
for me and for you

Can you imagine?
This terror and strife
end in great triumph
as He rose to new life

I am a Jesus Freak, and I don't care who knows it. I am a wife, mother, sister, aunt, daughter, and friend. My blood family is only part of the larger family of Christ that I belong to. I love to write, especially about my dear Savior.

    • Thank you. I had to turn the light back on to write down the first two stanzas the other night because they were keeping me awake. 🙂 Definitely a God-inspired poem.
