Paint Chip Poetry Prompt #31

It’s week 31 of the paint chip prompt and I’m mixing it up a bit again with an angel card in the line-up. I also picked the four paint chip cards from one small section of the deck so they are all in the same color family. Which I like because Once Upon a Time seems like a fairy tale topic and purples are colors of fairy tales.

The Challenge

Your challenge today is, therefore, to write a fairy tale. It can be fictional or autobiographical. It can be based on your favorite existing fairy tale or one you conjure up yourself. Or you could tell a true story as if it were a fairy tale.

But you must use all four of the paint chip words, which are royal, jacaranda, ultraviolet, and blackberry. You can either include the angel card word or just allude to the concept of obedience (or disobedience, if you prefer).

My Poetry Tale

I decided to go with a loosely autobiographical made-up fairy tale today. And as you will see, I leaned more toward the disobedience in this instance.

Once Upon a Time

Once upon a time a young princess was born
The youngest of five royal offspring
Of the joyful queen and handsome king of the north

She dreamed of one day owning a zoo filled with lions
And tigers, bears, wolves, and alligators too
But the king and queen told her not to daydream so much

She spent her days in her room painted ultraviolet
Imagining her stuffed animals were alive and
That she was their zookeeper extraordinaire

When it was time for her crazy menagerie to sleep
She would read to them about exotic lands
Where jacaranda grew wild and they could roam free

The bears in particular always wanted to hear the story
About the little boy who grew blackberry bushes
And picked the berries for all his forest friends

The princess liked that story too because the boy
Was kind and handsome and thoughtful, and he loved animals
She imagined he was real just like her zoo friends

The princess grew up and went away to school
To learn to be dull and dreamless and to get a job
Befitting of a princess from the north

Then one day she met a boy who was kind and handsome
And he loved her from the moment they met
Even though the queen objected, the princess married him

They didn't own a zoo, but they cared for dogs and cats
They had no jacaranda, but the boy grew flowers to please her
And they lived happily ever after

Your Turn

I can’t believe how excited I am about this prompt. I cannot wait to read what you all come up with, what wonderful fairy tales you will tell. I do love a good fairy tale, don’t you?

So you know what to do. Either post your poem in the comments, or post it on your blog and share a link in the comments. And don’t forget to link back here if you post on your blog so your readers can join in the fun.

I am a Jesus Freak, and I don't care who knows it. I am a wife, mother, sister, aunt, daughter, and friend. My blood family is only part of the larger family of Christ that I belong to. I love to write, especially about my dear Savior.
