Paint Chip Poetry Prompt #29

Here we are at week 29 and still going strong. For those of you who’ve come to enjoy my cousin Ron’s poems you may have to look beyond the comments. He’s started posting them on his own blog here: https://ronrowland.com/blog/. And while you’re over there you can learn a little about genealogy, if that’s of interest to you.

The Challenge

This week our theme is Long Lost. You could write about a long lost cousin, a long lost family heirloom, or a long lost idea for an epic poem. Just don’t get lost too long in the endless possibilities and forget to write your poem.

The prompt words an interesting mix. You have these seven words or phrases to work with: tropical, peacock, baby’s breath, bright idea, lotus, pomegranate, and hermit crab. I’ll only require you to use four, but let’s see who rises to the challenge of using them all.

My Poem

I think I have a bright idea for my poem today. We’ll see if you agree.

My Long Lost Vacation

I had a bright idea for a vacation in the sand
On a tropical island oasis near beautiful Maui land

I imagined eating pomegranate under a lotus tree
There would be no worries on my vacation so carefree

The hermit crabs would dash about but never cause any trouble
My fun in the sun and the splashing surf would be double

In my beachside room a bouquet of baby's breath and aster
Would brighten up the place and ward off any disaster

Across the grounds a peacock would show off his lovely tail
I'd write a ton of postcards and drop them in the mail

I had grand plans until a pandemic stopped the world
And my vacation was lost in a sea of masks unfurled

Your Turn

Now it’s your turn to pen a poem about something long lost. You can post it in the comments below, or post it on your own blog or website and include a link below. Remember to link back here so others can find their way and join the fun.

Though all our summer plans may be long lost, I do hope this weekly poetry prompt is helping you weather the pandemic. Thanks to all who have played along.

I am a Jesus Freak, and I don't care who knows it. I am a wife, mother, sister, aunt, daughter, and friend. My blood family is only part of the larger family of Christ that I belong to. I love to write, especially about my dear Savior.
