Resurfacing in Blue
I should have seen it coming
this sense of feeling blue
Delving into trials of the past
to write a memoir that’s true
I’m doubtful that this venture
is worth the time and pain
Will I survive this process
where no secrets will remain
Or will there be some truths
odd feelings buried deep
that I’ll find I cannot share
but to myself I’ll keep
It’s easy to write stories
of cerulean skies above
What I want to convey at last
is God’s gracious love
The writing is not easy
for it has been said
Where no tears in the writer
the prose is surely dead

The Poetics prompt at dVerse Poets Pub today is to write about something blue. I didn’t really have time today, but this poem kept nagging at me, so here it is. I hope to get back to dVerse later to do some reading. Do pop over and see what other poems of the great blue you will find.
The last two lines really hit me, to write from the heart is to feel and to feel is to be alive. So shed a tear if you must, for then the words come alive.
Where no tears in the writer
the prose is surely dead
“To feel is to be alive.” Thanks for the reminder. I’ll remember that!
You definitely do not write dead poetry! Nicely done.
Thank you!
Another blues singer. Keep your heart I your song, Linda! There’s beauty there!
This is almost like a homily– really enjoyed the flow and rhyme. Thanks, Linda! K.
I am glad the poem nagged you. Nicely done.
God’s love…the creator of sky and sea, first blue. I know the memoir will be trying and painful at times but it has already touched me in this poem.
Thanks!
from the melodic title to the last verse, this was a marvellous rendition of blue – you’ve touched the touchstone evidently
Sounds like you are writing a personal history, and that is a big undertaking, but such a worthy one. I agree that the deeper the feelings, the more easily the writing comes. Hope it goes well for you!
We write what moves us deeply… in tears and joy. Enjoyed your share Linda.
I was truly moved with this poem, Linda.. especially with the last stanza. Beautifully poignant.
Thanks.
“Where no tears in the writer
the prose is surely dead..”
Ah, so true… <3
I hope you find your writing cathartic and maybe it will bring you some satisfaction and peace even though the process may be tiresome and trying.
I used to think it harder to write poems from feelings of peace, happiness and contentment. I find the trick is to look around me at nature and let that symbolise my emotions. And what better sign of God’s love than the bounty of our natural world?
I think it’s harder to write poems of peace that touch others with that peace and that aren’t too saccharin.
I like the angst in this, Linda, and love your title.
I’m glad the poem nagged at you, Linda. Sharing one’s story is healing, but even more so, you never know who it may touch.
I certainly hope so.
Looking back can hurt, but it can be so necessary sometimes. Good work.
Tim
It’s harder than I expected, but worthwhile, I think.
I found this very touching. Well done.
