Grandpa’s Wisdom (or Folly)
Better an hour early than a minute late,
. . . . Grandpa oft repeated.
Which is fine, until . . .
You arrive at the party and
. . . . the host is in the shower
. . . . the chicken’s still running around the yard
. . . . you’re put to work chopping onions
. . . . the shindig’s tomorrow night

It’s Quadrille Monday at dVerse Poets Pub and Kim is calling for our 44-word poems to include the word early. I went a different direction than my usual. Head on over and see what other early birds are bringing to the Quadrille table.
Hahaha – that would be me, except 5 to 10 minutes late the day before! This is a fun read, thanks.
Ha! That is cheeky. What an awkward scenario indeed! XD
Haha! Love the humoour in this one.
Oops! That should be “humour” or the American spelling “humor”. 😉
Funny, I didn’t even notice your extra “o,” just the extra British “u.”
Thanks. I thought the world could use a little humor. 😉
This made me laugh. love love this.
Thanks. Glad to bring some laughter into the world.
Yep, that was a little too early…appreciate the humor in this poem.

Waiting
Early
Late
Isn’t Life..:)
As long as you don’t have to slaughter the chicken I think it’s OK…
🙂
That is very early. Getting the onion-chopping duty may be appropriate.
Totally appropriate!
The chicken running around is epic. 😂 that is indeed way too early.
your take on early was genius! to be so early you had to catch the chicken too!
Thanks.
This made me laugh. Love your take on it.
Thanks!
The chicken is running around the yard and you get stuck cutting onions. Love this.
🙂 Glad you liked it.
Ha that happens! Show up too early an you are in the kitchen!
If someone showed an hour early for my party, that’s what would happen. 😉
Oh, nice to know I am not the only one this has happened to. Except I had to get the chicken. Thanks for the grin and the memory.
🙂
That is too early, smiles. If you are too early, you will be helping out, ha.
And I don’t want to chop onions or prep the chicken, so I’ll show up just in time for the festivities.
This gave me a laugh :))
🙂
Haha. This is so true which is why I try not to arrive to early for parties. LOL
I laughed out loud – the shindig is tomorrow night – been there.
Glad I could give you a laugh.
Ha. I loved this. Such perfect pace, and story and interest. Five stars no doubt.
Thank you. 🙂
Hahaha! ❤️Such a delightful read, Linda 😀
Thanks. I wrote two serious poems over the weekend. Lighthearted seemed the way to go. 🙂
This is funny, the chicken will be truly fresh.
Pat
Maybe a little too fresh!
Lol, that too.
Haha! This was a fun poem, Linda 🙂
Thanks. Glad you liked it.
Ha! Now that is early to the shindig!
This is funny!
Thanks!
Your quadrille made me chuckle, Linda! I’ve been close but I don’t think I’ve ever been that early!
I don’t like to be late, but an hour is a tad excessive. 😉
