Dying Slowly
If I’d been the thief on the cross
Dying next to Jesus last Friday
Today I’d be in His paradise
Instead of hanging here still
Dying a little each day

Decided to share this melancholy poem as a postcard to the other side for De’s dVerse Poets Pub prompt today. Instead of a “wish you were here” it’s kind of a “wish I was there” postcard.
“dying a little each day” so powerful…
a well-written, eye welling poem
Thanks.
How we wish we were there indeed… beautifully poignant, Linda.
Nice. We’re all hanging in there
Ouch. That dying to self, inch-by-inch. Painfully familiar and oh-so-tedious.
Easter brought out your muse, I think. 😉 Everything will turn out all right…
these days are difficult for many.
Thanks. Pondering Holy Week usually does.
Powerful poem and metaphor.
dying a bit each day, there is an unsettling truth in these words.
True enough poem. Mournful voice is perfect for this lament. Until then….
this was a beautiful poem of longing and hope to be in the arms of everlasting love with a heart so full of faith
Took my breath away. Perfect!
Sounds as if written from the depths of despair. I’m sorry.
Thankfully, today is a new day and I am feeling much less despair. Some days are just harder than others.
Sending prayers your way, Linda.
Melancholy indeed, but very simply and well written.
Nice “wish I were there” postcard.
Life can be cruel.
But still God is good.
That’s a moot point, but you’re lucky to have faith in it.
Luck had nothing to do with it.
Ah, Linda. But you have faith.
Yes, I do. This was written in a moment of pain in the midst of a week of pain. Feeling weary. But I do know paradise awaits me in the end. 🙂
It’s not always easy.🌈
Oh, a very unusual and touching Easter postcard, Linda.
A very moving take on the prompt Linda – postcards can express wishes in every direction xxx
Love your take on this postcard poem, Linda!
I actually wrote the poem yesterday, but it seemed to fit the theme.
Oh I like this one . . .feel it ! Thank you!
Oh, Linda. This is poignant, touching, and so so sad.
So well done.
“a wish I was there” postcard. How perfect.
