We’ve made it to the end of the month (almost) and the last October octave prompt. To read the definition of octave and the full instructions for this prompt, read Paint Chip Octave No. 1. You can read my continuing saga about my teddy bear Calvin beginning in that post and continuing in No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4. I finish it up today.
The Challenge
The paint chip words and phrases you have to work with today are iris, Grand Canyon, mist, midnight, and half-and-half. I would like you to use at least two of these in today’s octave. Ideally, you’ll be building on the four octave stanzas you’ve already written. But if you haven’t started yet, feel free to write a stand-alone octave today.

I was delighted to see the paint chips randomly pulled for today. One of them is perfect because it is a place Calvin has been.

It is with a heavy heart that I typed that sign-off for the last time. I have decided that the paint chip prompts have run their course. We’re almost through the paint chip deck a second time and I seem to be losing steam. It’s been harder and harder for me to get these done on time to go live on Friday mornings. Looking ahead at my schedule in November and December, I realized it was only going to get harder.
But that doesn’t mean I won’t be posting at all. I definitely will. And keep an eye out for a free download of a PDF containing a bunch of my favorite paint chip prompts. For those of you who missed the beginning of this adventure that began the first Friday of 2020 (you remember, back before we were in the beginning/middle/end of a pandemic), you’ll be able to peruse the best prompts all in one place. Look for that download sometime around the end of November.
