It’s week 49 and I decided to have a little fun. Looking at the poetry books on my shelf, I was reminded of the hilarious Shel Silverstein. I have three of his poetry books and selected Falling Up for the source of my random poem title for the theme.
The Challenge
And trust me, this will be a challenge. I almost feel like I should apologize for the poem the random number generator landed on. It’s titled Eggs Rated from page 149. You’re on your own to figure out what to do with this one.
The paint chip words and phrases you have to work with are easy peasy, puddle, vintage turquoise, moon walk, hearthstone, sun rays, and tangerine dream. May that first phrase characterize your poetry writing for this prompt. Use how ever many of the words and phrases work for you.
My Poem
A True Story One year for Thanksgiving I thought beet-pickled deviled eggs Would be easy peasy to make. Spoiler alert: they're not. But they are a lovely shade Of bright fuschia. They don't resemble sun rays Or a tangerine dream Like regular deviled eggs. My nephew Gary claims They are the best he's ever had, Perhaps that he ever will. His sister, Leanne, says I need to whip some up For every holiday gathering. I think it's the horseradish That spices the eggs up, Like a crazy moon walk. Maybe it's the shallots, which By the way, make eyes sting Way worse than onions when diced. Or maybe it's the little cornichons; Who am I kidding, I just used Baby gherkins. Same difference. Anyway, they were delicious And I may make them again. Someday.
Your Turn
Now it’s your turn. Post your poem in the comments, either in whole or a link to where it’s posted on your blog. This week I’m going to rate poems on a five-egg scale, just for fun.
