Paint Chip Poetry Prompt #23

Here we be, at week 23. I’m not feeling much like writing poetry today, but I suppose that’s when some of the best poetry is written.

Today’s Challenge

Today we are writing about BFFs or friends forever. Hopefully we’re all blessed with at least one such friend. I actually have a few, not even counting Jesus, who is the best friend anyone could ever hope for.

I’m kind of in the mood for couplets today, rhymed or not. I know some of you will ignore that little piece of the prompt, but that’s okay. Just remember to include at least four of the following paint chip words and phrases: apple of my eye, sawdust, endless dunes, Jack and the Beanstalk, ballet slippers, kitten’s nose, and school bus.

My Poem

Finding Friends

Forever friends can be hard to find among endless dunes
or in a crowd pushing to and fro, vying for front of the line.

Don't follow Jack and the Beanstalk to meet your bestie.
All you'll find is a giant glutton eating mutton and bellowing.

The school bus might be the spot, a seat in the back with a new
kid whose little kitten's nose is peeking out of her backpack.

Maybe in shop class, with sawdust swirling around on the floor,
you could meet a friend who is making the same wooden box.

Sitting alone on a bench putting on your ballet slippers in time
for dance class, you might be joined by one who dances too.

In any of these places, you could meet Jesus, who will tell you
"You're the apple of my eye and I'll be with you, forever."

Your Turn

Now it’s your turn. Write your poem about one or more forever friends, in couplets please. You can post it in the comments below. Or if you have your own blog, post it there and include a link in the comments. I’m looking forward to reading what you all have to write this week.
