Paint Chip Poetry Prompt #19

It’s that time of the week again. Another paint chip poetry prompt coming your way.

We know that all things eventually end. A phrase I’ve repeated many times during the past several weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic is “This too shall  pass.” That statement applies equally to the good and the bad.

Your Challenge

But can you tell me, in the span of a little verse, “This is how it will all end”?

Your challenge is to do just that using at least two of these paint chip words or phrases: the golden hour, habañero, chamomile tea, hot pink, first kiss, amethyst, and ice cap.

My Poem

I pondered whether to go silly or serious with this one. One could certainly go to a dark place with a topic like this, though the words offered don’t seem to lend themselves to that. Well, except may ice cap. I’m not a fan of cold so ending in an ice cap would not be pleasant for me.

Anyway, here’s what I came up with.

This Is the End

This is the end
my friend

The golden hour
of endless chips
and habañero salsa
is no more
We must eat
what we buy
at the store

This is the trend
my friend

Staying in and
eating English biscuits
while drinking hot
chamomile tea
We must hole up
dreaming of days
by the sea

This I have penned
my friend

A hot pink verse
It could be worse

but trust me
This too shall pass
like a fleeting first kiss
or an ice cap
on a hot sunny day
As Frost would say,
Nothing gold can stay

Your Turn

So what do you think? Will you write about how this pandemic all will end? Or maybe how the whole world will end? Or maybe you want to write about an evening out with a friend, which eventually must end.

Write your verse and share it in the comments below. Or post it on your blog and post a link in the comments. Be sure to link back here if you post on your blog so others can find this prompt and play along. The more the merrier, they say.
