Paint Chip Poetry Prompt #11
It’s week #11 and last week I had the most players yet: four! So I’m thinking starting this weekly poetry prompt wasn’t a big mistake.
But this week’s prompt will have you (and me) writing about something that was a big mistake. The prompt words are pizzazz, ruby slippers, old barn, picnic basket, quarry, Sisyphus’s boulder, and Milky Way.
Your challenge, should you bravely accept it, is to write a poem that does not include the word mistake—find a good synonym instead. Then use at least three of the paint chip words—to use fewer would be a great gaffe.
Here’s my poem:
Blunders and Omissions
If I had ruby slippers
I think that I would know
Unlike delusional Dorothy
That they would make me grow
Oh wait, or was that Alice
Whose wicker basket held
A piece of muddled cake
That offered a growth spell
Oh no, that was Boo Boo
Who had a picnic basket
That Yogi wanted to eat
Or else he’d blow a gasket
Which reminds me of the quarry
Where Sisyphus’s boulder
Became his greatest blunder
As he pushed it with his shoulder
Oh what a silly poem this is
I was going for pizzazz
But ended up with confusion
And all that jazz
Your Turn
So what’s your plan? Will you go serious or silly? Will come up with blunders and bungles, or maybe go the opposite direction and write about no big mistake at all?
Post your poem in the comments, or post it on your blog and link to it in the comments. Either way, please play along.

Here is my poem this week, not exactly on-prompt but still inspired by it! Thank you, Linda.

This prompt was certainly not an egregious error! 🙂 Thanks, Linda.
Ha ha! Thanks.

Mistakes Are Plentiful
Yogi Bear stealing a picnic basket in the park
Noah ignoring the request to build an arc
Dorothy not knowing about ruby slippers
Letting the sharks get to poor little Flipper
Planning a celebration without pizzazz
The music world without soft jazz
Rolling Sisyphus’s boulder uphill
Allowing the revenuers to find the still
Believing the Milky Way is the whole universe
Thinking that things can never get worse
Swimming alone at the water filled quarry
Not listening with earnest to the entire story
Letting the old barn fall into decay
Acquiring goods without making pay
Of the things here mentioned do not partake
Because each and every one is a big mistake
Love it! I will definitely remember to not let the revenuers find my still. 😉
I see your posts i my reader, Linda. This one caught my imagination. Here’s my attempt:
Moon-gazing
We climbed in the twilight
To the old barn with its skylight,
Carrying our picnic basket packed
With the food we had stacked
For a rainy day.
Our chocolate bars
Were all of ‘Mars’
And none of ‘Milky Way’.
Our faux pas was that
The glass wasn’t flat.
Our view of Copernicus
Was out of focus!
Nice!
