Paint Chip Poetry Prompt #5

I can’t believe it’s week five of my Paint Chip Poetry Prompt. Only 47 more to go after this one. That’s assuming I can manage to stick with it all year long.

Participation hasn’t been as robust as I had hoped, but there have been a few great poems written in response to prompts #1 through #4. And I’ve had quite a few likes so maybe folks are being more thoughtful about the whole idea before jumping in. For those of you who haven’t had a chance to add your poem, all prompts will remain open for awhile. I may eventually close comments, but for now let’s think of it as one big Paint Chip Party.

This week’s words, which I honestly picked at random, are leapfrog, surf’s up, indigo, fire, it takes two to tango, spontaneous combustion, and hot sauce. The prompt phrase is far, far away. Your challenge is to write a poem on the topic of far, far away, though you don’t have to include those exact words, but using at least four of the paint chip words or phrases.

Here’s my poem for the week:

Heaven and Hell

They seem distant and remote,
Heaven and Hell, places we’d just as soon
Never think about
At least not today, maybe next week

One I imagine as a brilliant indigo
Where the sun shines and the surf’s up
Contented children play leapfrog
Before the throne of grace as God smiles
And a feast fit for kings and queens is spread
All is peace and love and joy

The other is hailed as a place of
Fire and brimstone where
Spontaneous combustion is a daily occurrence
And hot sauce of pure ghost pepper
Smothers everything edible
All is pain and sorrow and gnashing of teeth

Truth be told one or the other
Is just the other side of
. . . your
. . . . . . last
. . . . . . . . . breath

Your Turn

Now it’s your turn to be creative with this crazy prompt. What do you know that seems far, far away? I can’t wait to read your awesome poem, so write it and either post it in a comment, or post it on your blog and link to the post in a comment. The Paint Chip Poetry game is only fun if someone other than me plays.
