Wedding Bells – A Villanelle
Our nephew Jacob is marrying the love of his life Baiba today. We are looking forward to attending the wedding and reception. In anticipation of the festivities I wrote this villanelle for them. It’s my first attempt at a villanelle, another poetry form with specific repeating pattern.
Wedding Bells
Wedding bells are ringing
Love in the air tonight
Angels all are singing
Guests welcomed to the fling
Revel with all their might
Wedding bells are ringing
In her hand blooms of spring
Beautiful bride in white
Angels all are singing
See gifts and love we bring
Sharing our smiles so bright
Wedding bells are ringing
Symbol of love, a ring
Beloved vows they write
Angels all are singing
Bride and groom are kissing
Wedded bliss close in sight
Wedding bells are ringing

I am happy for you, and your nephew. The poem is even a good one. However, I have to say, I hate weddings. I am a pastor who hates doing weddings – is that wrong? Congratulations, though.
Anthony, You really wouldn’t have like officiating over this wedding. It was outside and the weather didn’t really cooperate. It was barely 55 degrees, overcast, and very windy. At the end of the ceremony it started to sprinkle. But it was beautiful nonetheless. And the storminess was perfect with the Pr. message about how forgiveness helps couples through the storms of life. 🙂 Peace, Linda
I had one couple bring me to the gulf coast to perform a wedding in a gazebo on the beach. Now THAT was a wedding that I liked. God a weeks vacation out of it, too. If they could all…..wait…that will be my new requirement!
Just be sure you avoid northern Washington in early June. 😉
