Forgiven – My Tuesday Three
My Tuesday Three today is sort of a bonus Music Monday because I want to share three songs that all have the same title – Forgiven – by three very different bands. I love the knowledge that I am forgiven because of Christ and so any song on that subject is a good one in my book.
The first song is by a hard rock Christian band that is my son’s favorite. The band is called Skillet and has become one of my favorites, too. But this song by them is the best of what I have heard of their music. It talks of loving another and being unfaithful, and reminds me of the Old Testament story of Hosea and his adulterous wife.
The second song is by a band that has recently become one of my favorites when I saw them with Casting Crowns. The band is called Sanctus Real. They are a pop / rock Christian band, a little mellower than Skillet. At the concert I got a new hoodie sweatshirt that has these lyrics printed on it: “When I don’t measure up to much in this life / Oh, I’m a treasure in the arms of Christ.” That’s what it means to be forgiven, and we must never forget that we are.
The third song I actually had to go looking for. I knew there had to be another song out there called Forgiven. I actually found three. The first was by a screaming hard core metal band. I looked at the lyrics and they are clearly a Christian band, but as I listened to it I realized I would never have known the lyrics if I wasn’t looking at them on my computer screen. There was a time I might have liked it, but I’m too old for that kind of music now (and that’s a good thing!) The second was by a woman who had a very melodic voice, but it really didn’t appeal to me.
The third, which I’ve chosen for the third of My Tuesday Three, is by Los Lonely Boys. They are a Texican style rock band. I’ve listened to this band before because my husband has them on his iPod, but I’d never heard this song. I kind of like it, but it ends with the singer questioning whether he can be forgiven instead of with the knowledge that he is. I guess every believer was once at that point, and I pray that all who ask this question will come to the knowledge that Christ died for them and they can be forgiven no matter what they have done.
Well, I hope you’ve enjoyed these three songs of being forgiven. And never forget that you are forgiven, too.

How great is our God! I am amazed at how He loves and how He forgives. To hear it once per day is wonderful enough. To have it three times in one post is ultra cool!!! Thanks for the demonstrations of His priceless love.
A line from my second favourite song says “forgiven and pure, You call me Yours.” This hits home. hard. I no longer struggle with what’s behind me, but some days the memories visit. In those moments, I am thankful that I am forgiven. Thanks for reminding me today.

Ann, Every once in a while the baggage of my past comes back to try to drag me down – it happened recently – and it is then that songs like these come on my iPod and I am reminded that I’m forgiven. I’m happy and blessed to be able to pass on that reminder to others. 🙂 Peace, Linda
What a great Tuesday three about forgiveness. And that’s so, so important to know, isn’t it . . .that we can be forgiven and are forgiven in Christ. I know it’s a basic, but sometimes as life goes on and things happen, I can be harder on myself.
Do you like a particular Skillet CD, Linda, more than another?
I didn’t realize that it was Sanctus Real that sang “Forgiven”. ! I love that one too!
