Way Down in the Hole
Last Saturday I went out with a friend for her birthday. The band (actually it was just two guys with guitars) was really good and played an interesting variety of songs. My friend knew the band and mentioned that one of the guys plays in her church worship team and the other (the primary singer) wouldn’t set foot in a church. And so I was surprised to hear them sing “Way Down in the Hole” by Steve Earle.
I’ve been a fan of Steve Earle for years. He’s not a “Christian artist” and he’s not even a Christian (yet), but he plays some good music and this song is one of my favorites off his 2007 album Washington Square Serenade. It is the only song on the album that Earle didn’t write or co-write, but was written by Tom Waits.
I decided that for my Music Monday post I wanted to share this song. I found this video of it on YouTube. The imagery is from a video game and is a bit odd (though somewhat appropriate), but the other videos were all live performances that were not taped that well and it was hard to understand the lyrics.
Wow. Very cool! Never heard of Steve Earle, or this song before. I feel a little more cultured now. lol.
Karla, Glad you liked it! I’m not sure I’d classify Steve Earle as “culture” but he’s been making music since the 80s. Peace, Linda
Haha, great song, have never heard it before. Just underscores what a pansy the devil is. God bless-Jim
Yep, all it takes is walking with Jesus and the devil’s defeated! He acts all tough but he’s not. 😉 Peace, Linda
Linda . . .I loved it and so appreciate you sharing it with us today. Aubrey was bobbing to it! 🙂 It goes rather nicely with Jim’s post today too!
God bless you as you keep thinking of Jesus and letting Him shine in all you do. Praying for your appointment tomorrow!
