Psalm 23 – No Fear

Probably the most famous Psalm is Psalm 23. Even those who have never read through the Psalms know this one. In my Bible I carry a laminated bookmark with my dad’s obituary on one side and Psalm 23 on the other. It is frequently used at memorial services.

It is a very comforting Psalm and reminds me that I need not fear anything because God is always with me. Even in the valley of the shadow of death He is there. It is surprising that with over 600 posts on my blog so far I have never posted this Psalm in its entirety, though I have quoted a verse or two on occasion. I decided it was time it had a place on Psalm Sunday. May the Lord be your shepherd as you walk through the dark valleys of this world.

Psalm 23

    A psalm of David.

 1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
 3 he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
   for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk
   through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
   for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
   they comfort me.

 5 You prepare a table before me
   in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
   my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me
   all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
   forever.

I am a Jesus Freak, and I don't care who knows it. I am a wife, mother, sister, aunt, daughter, and friend. My blood family is only part of the larger family of Christ that I belong to. I love to write, especially about my dear Savior.

  1. Wonderful post Linda! It’s a very nice Psalm indeed. In a sense this Psalm and Psalm 91 have protection aspect to them. Maybe that’s why they’re well known, especially this one. Good job. I’ve subscribed!

    • Thanks. I post a differnt Psalm every Sunday, at least I will until I get through them all. The Psalms are indeed a good place to go for prayers of protection. Peace, Linda

  2. So beautiful Linda. Thank you! How is it that whatever Psalm you do on Sundays, it always blesses me? 🙂 Interestingly enough, Pastor J is going through this Psalm at Reinventing the We’ll.
    God bless you as He lovingly shepherds you today!

  3. Thank you, Linda

    I am so glad you posted this today!! I was at church thinking about the Psalm and I decided to share on it tomorrow if you didn’t post it today. 🙂 How great is our God!

    “May the Lord be your shepherd as you walk through the dark valleys of this world.”
