I love music and can’t imagine living my life without it. At home, I listen to music a lot: I play my iPod while I’m in the shower and getting dressed for work, I listen to CDs in my car, I listen to music whenever I’m doing housework, and I love to sing in church on Sunday.
Last week when I was in Austin I didn’t have much opportunity to listen to music, even though Austin is the live music capital of the world. I did listen to a little blues guitar at the Blue Moon, and I had my iPod along for the flight there and back, but otherwise we were just too busy. It made me realize how thankful I am that I have my music most of the time. In particular, I am thankful for my Christian music that uplifts my spirit and provides a means to praise my God.
So I decided to dedicate my Thankful Thursday poem to music.
Music
Melody, harmony, and rhythm
United to the glory of God
Sweet sounds of praise
Invading my heart
Capturing my soul
Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous;
it is fitting for the upright to praise him.
Praise the LORD with the harp;
make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.
Sing to him a new song;
play skillfully, and shout for joy.
Psalm 33:1-3 (NIV).
