Music – A Poem

I love music and can’t imagine living my life without it. At home, I listen to music a lot: I play my iPod while I’m in the shower and getting dressed for work, I listen to CDs in my car, I listen to music whenever I’m doing housework, and I love to sing in church on Sunday.

Last week when I was in Austin I didn’t have much opportunity to listen to music, even though Austin is the live music capital of the world. I did listen to a little blues guitar at the Blue Moon, and I had my iPod along for the flight there and back, but otherwise we were just too busy. It made me realize how thankful I am that I have my music most of the time. In particular, I am thankful for my Christian music that uplifts my spirit and provides a means to praise my God.

So I decided to dedicate my Thankful Thursday poem to music.

Melody, harmony, and rhythm
nited to the glory of God
weet sounds of praise
nvading my heart
apturing my soul

Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous;
   it is fitting for the upright to praise him.
Praise the LORD with the harp;
   make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.
Sing to him a new song;
   play skillfully, and shout for joy.
Psalm 33:1-3 (NIV).

I am a Jesus Freak, and I don't care who knows it. I am a wife, mother, sister, aunt, daughter, and friend. My blood family is only part of the larger family of Christ that I belong to. I love to write, especially about my dear Savior.

  1. Listening to music even in a shower? You love music! Music is another thing that I am thankful to God. He reintroduced me to it through Christian songs and I am loving it! 🙂

    • Rea, Well the iPod itself isn’t in the shower, it’s just in the bathroom, silly! 😉 It’s a great way to start the day with praising God in song – He can wash my soul while I wash my body. Peace, Linda

  2. This was just perfect, Linda! 🙂 What a beautiful thing to be thankful for. And I am too! I don’t get to listen as much as I used to, but music always makes my day better! Especially those songs that praise and worship Him!
    God bless you as you sing for Him today!

    • Deb, I’m glad I get to contribute to your music listening occasionally when I post a video on Monday (and sometimes other days)! I don’t know what I would do if I couldn’t listen to my music. I suppose I would do a lot of humming in my head. 😉 Peace, Linda

  3. Thanks, Linda

    ( Can I hit the like button more than once?!! 🙂 )

    Music means so much to me too 🙂 I can always find a song or a melody that speaks my heart. I love me some music and I too am thankful for that ministry / gift.

    You have blessed me greatly today. May He return to you a hundredfold.

    Blessings much,

    • Ann, I’m glad you “liked” this poem so much. I can tell from your frequent video comments that music is important to you. It was kind of funny when I was in Austin, all sorts of things triggered song lyrics playing in my head. I can’t sing very well, but I enjoy music so much, especially when it is music that glorifies God. Peace, Linda
