Psalm 89 – Praise for Our Creator

This past week we were on a camping vacation to the Redwoods in northern California. For several nights we stayed at Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park inland just a few miles from Crescent City and the ocean. We stayed in site number 89. We didn’t have any reservations; this was one of their first come, first serve sites, and it was a great site that had perfect spots for both of our tents.

In thinking about what Psalm to post for today, I decided to see what Psalm 89 said. Turns out it was a very appropriate Psalm because it speaks of God’s beautiful creation and how He is greater than the mighty waves of the ocean. As I typed the draft of this post sitting at camp, I could look up at the huge redwood trees that towered above me knowing that they are part of God’s beautiful creation and attest to His majesty.

I have posted here Psalm 89:1-18, but I recommend you check out the whole Psalm.

Psalm 89

A psalm of Ethan the Ezrahite.

 1 I will sing of the Lord’s unfailing love forever!
      Young and old will hear of your faithfulness.
 2 Your unfailing love will last forever.
      Your faithfulness is as enduring as the heavens.

 3 The Lord said, “I have made a covenant with David, my chosen servant.
      I have sworn this oath to him:
 4 ‘I will establish your descendants as kings forever;
      they will sit on your throne from now until eternity.’”
                         Interlude

 5 All heaven will praise your great wonders, Lord;
      myriads of angels will praise you for your faithfulness.
 6 For who in all of heaven can compare with the Lord?
      What mightiest angel is anything like the Lord?
 7 The highest angelic powers stand in awe of God.
      He is far more awesome than all who surround his throne.
 8 O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies!
      Where is there anyone as mighty as you, O Lord?
      You are entirely faithful.

 9 You rule the oceans.
      You subdue their storm-tossed waves.
 10 You crushed the great sea monster.
      You scattered your enemies with your mighty arm.
 11 The heavens are yours, and the earth is yours;
      everything in the world is yours—you created it all.
 12 You created north and south.
      Mount Tabor and Mount Hermon praise your name.
 13 Powerful is your arm!
      Strong is your hand!
      Your right hand is lifted high in glorious strength.
 14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne.
      Unfailing love and truth walk before you as attendants.
 15 Happy are those who hear the joyful call to worship,
      for they will walk in the light of your presence, Lord.
 16 They rejoice all day long in your wonderful reputation.
      They exult in your righteousness.
 17 You are their glorious strength.
      It pleases you to make us strong.
 18 Yes, our protection comes from the Lord,
      and he, the Holy One of Israel, has given us our king.

  1. It completely baffles me how one can look at creation and NOT believe in a Creator God – and the closer we look at creation’s marvels, we more we marvel at our Creator God.
    What an incredible God we know, love and serve!

    • Baffled – that is exactly how I feel when I hear someone say there is no Creator. I’m so glad there is not only a Creator God, but that He offers us, His creation, love and mercy. Peace, Linda

  2. What a beautiful Psalm to go with your trip . . .and it matched your campsite number? wow. I see more of Him at work in your life and it makes me so excited . . .and giddy! Oh yes it does! ha!
    God bless you and cover you throughout your week!

    • Deb, On the way to the campground my husband said he had a feeling we were going to find a great campsite. When we got to the campground there were only 4 first come, first serve sites left and 89 was just perfect! I was so tickled to read Psalm 89! God is so awesome! Peace, Linda

  3. Thank you, Linda 🙂

    “The heavens are yours, and the earth is yours;
    everything in the world is yours—you created it all.”

    All His!! He created it all for His pleasure. So thankful that He allows us to enjoy the wonder of His creation.

    Blessings,
    ann

    • Ann, Last year vacation was in New York City where everything is manmade; this year the Redwoods, the Rogue River, and the beach where everything is created by God. The latter was much more impressive to me. So glad He allows us to enjoy His creation as well! Peace, Linda

  4. We have the assurance that He loves us. Praise His Name that He came to fulfil prophecy, and that the Old Testament is only complete in Him.

    Lovely Psalm. Sounds like a great trip.
