What Do They See?
All this week I was listening to Third Day’s “Move” CD in my car. One of my favorite songs on that CD is called “Make Your Move.” I had the good fortune to see them play it live for the first time last July, before the CD was even released. I had a front row seat at Rolling Hills Church as they opened the concert with this song. I instantly loved it, and hearing it on the CD has only solidified how much I love it. I found this great live performance of the song by someone who was in the front row at another concert, which gives you kind of an idea of the viewpoint I had. The audio isn’t the best, but I decided to use this instead of a “video” that was just a picture of the CD cover with the song playing over it.
I wrote a post based on this song right after the CD came out titled “Are You Prepared to Make Your Move?” But as I listened to this song over and over this week, something different occurred to me. I just love when God shows me something new in a song or a poem or a Bible verse that moves beyond what I had seen before.
This song is sung from the perspective of a person who is seeking the truth and is looking to a believer in Christ to understand the reason for their faith. The phrase of the song that stood out to me was “I gotta admit that there’s something I see in you; I know that it’s something deep inside.” This line was very convicting and caused me to pause and take spiritual inventory of my attitudes and actions.
When someone looks at me do they see something different? Do they see something deep inside that is worth learning about? Do they see faith and love in action so clearly that they want to know what (or Who) is behind it all?
Or do they see someone who says they are a Christian but acts no different from anyone else? Do they see a Sunday Christian who cares only about their own needs? Or worse, do they see a judgmental Christian who has nothing for them but condemnation?
Jesus said to His disciples, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35 (NIV). The world is full of people who are hurting and broken, who need the love of Christ. But if we don’t show them that we love as He loved us, how will they ever know that we have found Who they need?

This is what the Christian life SHOULD BE.
I am sure people see this in you. If all of God’s children lived as we should, we would live in a different kind of world.
That is so nice of you to say! I hope people see Christ in my life, but I think it is important to frequently take spiritual inventory just to make sure. It’s easy to become complacent and comfortable, and lose that which makes us different. You are right, though, that we would live in a much better world if all of God’s children lived as we should.
