Unceasing Prayer – A Poem
Continuing on with my thoughts on prayer, I decided I would write a poem about how thankful I am for prayer and for the strength and wisdom God grants me through prayer. I know that without prayer my life is much more stressful and overwhelming.
The other day I received a Martin Luther quote in my Quotemeal email that said, “I have so much to do [today] that I should spend the first three hours in prayer.” Most days are like that, though I certainly don’t find time for three hours of just prayer. The alternative is to spend at least part of my focused prayer time in the morning asking God to help me always be aware of His voice and to practice the unceasing prayer that comes from knowing He will never leave me.
Unceasing Prayer
Up in the morning, I’ve places to go
No time to waste, so to my knees I fall
Counting on Jesus, praising Him first
Ever in worship and love I do call
Alpha and Omega, the beginning and end
Sin I’m confessing, forgiveness I seek
Imploring His will to be done all the day
Not wanting my will to prevail, I am meek
Getting up from my knees, I go forth in His strength
Pray without ceasing, the Scriptures teach
Running on empty, I’d surely fail, but
Always thoughts of praise guide my speech
Yearning and learning to listen to Him
Ever my actions His love and mercy preach
Rest for my soul in His never-failing presence
In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures, and they were covered with eyes, in front and in back. The first living creature was like a lion, the second was like an ox, the third had a face like a man, the fourth was like a flying eagle. Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under his wings. Day and night they never stop saying:
“Holy, holy, holy
is the Lord God Almighty,
who was, and is, and is to come.”Revelation 4:6-8 (NIV).
Great poetic prayer! Loved it.
Unceasing prayer – or the attitude of being in the presence of our loving Father God and under His guidance and control – is the secret to a victorious Christian life. If only we could act on this knowledge A-L-L the time!
Thanks for the reminder.
This is amazing! 🙂 And I love how it is on prayer yet too. I’m so blessed by you, your blog and your poetry!
God bless you as you listen to Him each day!
p.s. I also love that part of Revelation! I find myself saying it too.
Deb, It was you who inspired me to start writing poetry again, so it is only fitting that you would be blessed by it! 🙂 And it is Jesus who gives me the words that makes it poetry worth reading! I love the Revelation verse and how it echos the Isaiah verse. The sight of those angels singing “Holy, Holy, Holy” is something I don’t want to miss when I get to Heaven. Peace, Linda
Thank you, Linda
This is very nice! Thanks for sharing.
“learning to listen to Him.
So am I 😉 .. I’m told it makes the difference 🙂
Blessings,
ann
Ann, I KNOW it makes a difference! A quick comparison of a day when I do and a day when I don’t make that quite evident. 🙂 Peace, Linda
P.S. I just wanted to say thanks again for inspiring Thankful Thursdays. This has become one of my favorite theme days on my blog, and I am loving the stretch to write poetry every week and to rely on Him to do it.
