Flowers in Bloom – A Poem

Spring seems to have finally arrived. Although the rain has not completely subsided here in the Pacific Northwest, we have had a number of sunny days and the flowers and trees are in bloom. Even my Mothers’ Day lilac tree/bush is in bloom.

There are other bushes in my front yard in bloom, too. I don’t know what they all are, but I do know they are beautiful. I am so thankful for the beauty of flowers blooming in the spring.

Blooming Bush

That is why I decided to write my Thankful Thursday poem about all the beautiful flowers God has given us to herald in the spring. We will be blessed with flowers throughout the spring and summer, and even some that will hang on into the fall. Each flower has its blooming season appointed by God so that we can enjoy them for many months.

I am also thankful for these pictures of beautiful irises posted by my blogging friend Eden Ellis at her new photo blog, just for me.

Flowers in Bloom

Flowers in bloom, wonder of spring
Lilacs’ sweet fragrance and lovely buds
Opening their faces to the sun God brings
Wisteria wafting, lavender fills the air
Each bloom, a short time to the branches it clings
Roses guarded by thorns, fragile beauties
Sweet magnolia and dogwood softly sing

Iris stand tall but delicate and charming
Nasturtium and heliotrope, fragrance delights

Bees pollenate, hummingbirds feed
Little tree blossoms become fruit, indeed
On the windowsill in a vase, red carnations
On the table daisies brighten the room
My Creator, my Lord, designed them all

Roses and Carnations

Look, the winter is past,
and the rains are over and gone.
 The flowers are springing up,
the season of singing birds has come,
and the cooing of turtledoves fills the air.
The fig trees are forming young fruit,
and the fragrant grapevines are blossoming.
   Rise up, my darling!
Come away with me, my fair one!”
Song of Solomon 2:11-13 (NLT).
