As I wrote last Thursday, one of the things I am so thankful for is the Holy Spirit. He is such a blessing in my life and helps me in so many ways. It seems only appropriate to take another Thankful Thursday to continue my focus on the fruit of the Spirit:
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT).
I started with the poem I posted last week about love, joy, and peace. I am continuing with the next part of the poem this week, and will finish it up next week. This week I’m writing to celebrate patience, kindness, and goodness, the second three of the fruits of the Spirit.
Patience Kindness Goodness
Patience —
Awaiting an answer
To prayers lifted high
Impatience knocks at the door
“Enter not” retorts the Spirit
Never ceasing to strengthen
Christ promised the Counselor
Evermore to the end of the age I’ll wait
Kindness —
Interceeding for others
Not putting self first
Divine love inspires thoughts of
No one left behind to fall
Everyone treated as equal
Sins forgiven with mercy
Salvation freely shared with all
Goodness —
Oh, how the Spirit does teach
Of all that is wrong and right
Developing character qualities in us
Now that are God’s delight
Even the worst of sinners
Sinners like me and you
Show goodness learned from His Spirit anew
