In planning for Thankful Thursday, I asked my son for a synonym for thankful and he said, “Grateful.” I’ve been putting off writing a poem based on this most obvious synonym for thankful, but I guess it’s time to give in.
Grateful is a terrific word. There is so much in this life to be grateful for, plus there is eternal life with Jesus to be even more grateful for. This life is but a shadow of what is to come, but even the shadow has the basic characteristics of the original. And so I am dedicating this poem to all the wonders of this life and this world that God created.
Grateful
God created this world for us to enjoy
Rivers flow to wash away strife
Air to breath that gives us life
Trees grow tall, bear fruit to eat
Earth to cultivate vegetables, wheat
Flowers bloom, their beauty we value
Under the sun shining from a sky of blue
Love created it all for His joy
There is so much in this world that God created for us to be grateful for. What part of God’s creation are you most thankful for?
God, the Lord, created the heavens and stretched them out.
He created the earth and everything in it.
He gives breath to everyone,
life to everyone who walks the earth.
Isaiah 42:5.
