Everyone You Love

Whenever I get a new CD, I tend to listen to it over and over. Makes my family kind of crazy because it’s in the player every time we get in the car and I listen to it on my iPod in the morning while I’m getting ready for work. Well, the new Third Day CD “Move” is no different. It’s a great CD from beginning to end. Of course, I don’t think I’ve ever heard a Third Day song I didn’t like, so I’m not surprised that I love this CD.

The lyrics of one song in particular got me thinking today. The song is called “Everywhere You Go” and is about wanting to follow Jesus wherever He goes because of the second chance He has given. The chorus is:

Everywhere You go, I wanna go
Will You take me with You
Everywhere you lead, I wanna be by your side
Everyone you love, I wanna love
Just like you love me
Everywhere you go, I wanna go there with you

I sing along with this song and think, Yes, that’s what I want. I want to be with Jesus and go where He goes. Then when I sing the line “Everyone You love I want to love like You love me” it seems He brings to mind people I haven’t really loved like He does. I’m challenged because I want to love like He does, but I don’t. He says “forgive them Father, for they know not what they do.” I say, “they drive me nuts and are just too frustrating.”

I know I love others more now than I used to. I know He has changed my heart quite a bit so that I care about people I never would have cared about before I knew Him. But I feel a bit discouraged that I am not there yet, I don’t yet love like He loves me. Then the final verse reminds me He’s not finished with me yet:

It doesn’t matter how long this is gonna take me
I’m gonna keep on moving even if it breaks me
I’ll never turn around
I have found where I am going

I am reminded of what Paul told the Philippians:

In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:4-6.

I know there are Christians praying for me, and that my Lord Jesus speaks to the Father on my behalf when I fail. 1 John 2:1. So I’ll keep heading down the road closer to Jesus, asking Him to help me love others more and better each day.

I am a Jesus Freak, and I don't care who knows it. I am a wife, mother, sister, aunt, daughter, and friend. My blood family is only part of the larger family of Christ that I belong to. I love to write, especially about my dear Savior.

  1. I love how the songs affect you . . .they do me too! Music is such a great ministry. And what you drew from this song I second too . . .to love like He loves me. Every day, we keep getting closer and closer. Thank you for sharing your heart and your love of Him with us! 🙂

    • Deb, I don’t know what I would do without my Christian music. I am so glad we now have really good music with Christian lyrics. I love the sound of rock music, especially southern rock like Third Day, but the lyrics of the stuff I listened to growing up are not nearly as uplifting and growth-inspiring as listening to Christian rock. Peace, Linda
