A Mother’s Gratitude

Mother’s Day is this weekend, and it has me thinking about how blessed I am to be a mom. I only have one child, but he is very special to me. Even at 15, he still likes to spend time with his mom and is a good kid. My son is to me proof that we don’t always get what we deserve.

When I was his age, I gave my mom no end of grief. I was a straight-A student, but I certainly didn’t want to spend time with my parents. I didn’t tell my mom I loved her every day. If I got what I deserved, I would have a teenager just like I was. But I don’t.

I have a kid who is kind, compassionate, funny, artistic, and loving. I have a kid who has a strong faith in God, something I did not have at his age. Although he doesn’t get the best grades, I am proud of him.

Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” That is what I have tried to do with my son. I’m sure I haven’t done it perfectly, but where I have failed, God has stepped in and guided him. I pray the Holy Spirit will lead him always in the right way. That’s the best a mother can hope for her child.
