Peace for the Soul

Today is the one Thursday each month when I have to work until 9:00 p.m., even though I was already in the office at 8:45 a.m. It is a long day for me, and sometimes just the thought of it makes my whole week seem longer. But it is better than the alternative, which was having the meeting that I now have on Thursday nights on Saturday mornings, so I am not complaining.

Sometimes this week can make me feel both physically and mentally weary. But this week, all I am feeling is the physical weariness. I have been spending more time in prayer in the morning (a discipline I hope to keep up), and so have not felt as mentally weary this week. I am taking advantage of one of Jesus’ promises:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30.

My body is still tired, but my soul is at rest and peace. For that I am grateful to my Savior. But now I have to go get set up for my meeting.
